Roads To Quoz - Andrew M.

Roads To Quoz The excerpt of the text, Roads To Quoz, is made up of a very interesting writing style. The excerpt starts with the characters arriving at Joe’s Country Store. The writer describes Joe’s Country Store, “It had the look of an old village-grocery.” A village grocery store is an older, more simple and cozy style of grocery store. The writer described Joe’s Country Store this way to introduce the visual image of this location into the imaginations of the audience. The writer says that these kinds of stores are “diminishing” to make the audience realize that finding a store like this is an uncommon experience. The writer goes on to describe the inside of the store that contains a “meat-and-cheese-counter” where a “Bert” or ”Betty” could assemble a sandwich or other food items. While describing the counter, the author goes into depth about the miniscule details. By describing how the meat and cheese counter works, the reader can relate the experience the characters are go...

Shooting An Elephant

Shooting An Elephant “Shooting An Elephant” by George Orwell is a very deep and descriptive story about an intense journey that leaves the reader wanting to read more. One of the most fascinating things I discovered while reading this story is the purpose, not just the purpose but how it evolves around the writer’s emotion in the moment. In the beginning paragraph, the writer says, “It was perfectly clear to me what I ought to do. I ought to walk up to within, say, twenty-five yards of the elephant and test his behavior.” Just from these two sentences we can see that the writer is one-hundred percent confident that he is going to end up shooting the elephant. On the flip side, in the ending paragraph after shooting the elephant, the writer says, “In the end I could not stand it any longer and went away.” The purpose of the story isn’t about shooting the elephant or anything about the elephant at all, the purpose of the story is to observe the main character’s personal journey....

Setting a new world record for the fastest 100 meter time, Bolt is the “world’s fastest man”. One of the most unbelievable parts about his incredible accomplishment is that he ran the race with his shoes untied!  Racing among some of the best athletes in the world like Richard Thompson, Walter Dix, Churandy Martina, Michael Frater, Marc Burns, Darvis Patton, and teammate Asafa Powell, Usain Bolt outran and outperformed his competitors on the track. With a beyond remarkable display of speed, Bolt had a blazing fast time of 9.69 seconds! The talented sprinter managed to keep calm, relaxed, and composed, despite his shaky start in the race and making an almost devastating step within the first 20 meters.  After finishing the race, Bolt went wild with excitement and pounded his chest in triump...
